Photography sessions are a super fun and interactive way to remember and capture memories with your family. The planning and details can sometimes cause some un-needed stress. I created this guide to help your session and the planning behind it go as smoothly as possible.

In this guide you will find different sections to read and look through. Each section covers a photography session topic, like wardrobe, location, and more.

Be Yourself

Don't overthink your session. I know that is easier said than done, but remember your session is about having fun and capturing memories.
We will get some beautiful photos, you do not need to worry.

Let it go + have fun!

Things to remember:

  • Moments over poses. We will be doing some poses, but a very few amount. I want to capture natural candid moments of you and your family. Play around with your family, get goofy, and just have fun with your family.
  • R-e-l-a-x. If your children are a little nervous or are acting a little goofy, that is totally okay! Kids will be kids. We'll focus on the moment and capture tons of beautiful images. I have ways of getting children to open up and interact with me. You just have fun with your family.
  • Relay on me. As your photographer, I promise we will have an awesome session and capture tons of beautiful images you will love.
  • Just have fun. Tickle, laugh, kiss, be goofy, tell a joke. This will process natural candid moments.

Location

My sessions are available in-home or outdoors. Each option is great and provides a different look for the images. Outdoor sessions take place only at sunset during golden hour.

Location is key.

A beautiful location is key for great images. I have a large variety of amazing locations for my sessions surrounding Vincennes and neighboring areas. I have spent lots of time scouting out outdoor areas so that every session has a great backdrop for photos. I will give you multiple different locations options to pick from if you have chosen an outdoor location for session. If you already have a location in mind, we can discuss and it for you session if it is within 40 miles of Vincennes.

In-home sessions are also great because I can capture you family in their natural environment where they are comfortable . If you chose to do a in-home session we will also discuss details before so that we can have a successful session that works with your home.

Wardrobe

First and foremost, choose outfits that make you feel good and comfortable! That feeling of confidence will show through in your photos. I recommend that you go for coordinating colors among your family members rather than matching.

Dress for sucess

One of the first things that need to be done when assembling outfits for a session is to choose a color scheme you would like to stick to. I mentioned above it is best to pick coordinating colors rather than to all match and wear the same color. You can choose your color scheme because you simple like the colors or you can pick one that matches the background or season. Each season has different tone of colors that goes with it.

  • Spring colors are light, fresh and radiant. They are yellow-based warm colors and are best complemented with yellow gold or bronze
  • Summer colors are soft, sensitive and refined. They are blue-based cool colors and should be accented with white gold, rose gold, silver or platinum. Summers are best in pastels and soft neutral colors.
  • Autumn colors are warm, rich and mellow. They are yellow-based warm colors and should be accented with yellow gold, bronze or copper.
  • Winter colors are vibrant, dramatic and sophisticated. They are blue-based cool colors and are best accented with white, gold or platinum.

DO

  • Wear something comfy
